1. The Golden State Warriors were founded in 1946 as the Philadelphia Warriors and were one of the original teams in the Basketball Association of America (BAA), which later merged with the National Basketball League (NBL) to form the NBA.
2. The Warriors relocated to San Francisco in 1962 and became known as the San Francisco Warriors. In 1971, the team changed its name to the Golden State Warriors to represent the entire state of California.
3. The Warriors experienced their first period of success in the 1970s. Led by players like Rick Barry and Jamaal Wilkes, they won their first NBA championship in the 1974-1975 season, defeating the Washington Bullets in the NBA Finals.
